Which US states have the most federally recognized Indian tribes? On a roadtrip across the US, I passed through Oklahoma and learned that many tribes from Eastern states were forcibly removed in the 19th century and now are in Oklahoma and other western states. I was surprised that my state of California is second only to Alaska for number of tribes. The number of tribes is growing all the time as the US government builds relationships with them and adds them to the list.
