In late December 2023, the international math testing results for 2022 were released by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). They publish global math testing scores every five years. Unfortunately, math scores dropped substantially from 2018, even in top countries. The OECD dataset was huge and there was much to unpack. I chose to look at the 23 countries whose scores were above the global average and compare them with their scores from 2018, before the pandemic. Overall, math scores have been in decline for a decade, but this really shows how the pandemic impacted education, even in wealthier, developed countries.
