I bought my first house in 2020 through the USDA loan program which doesn't require a down payment. To see how much I was saving by moving to a rural area (the stipulation for the loan), I looked for a dataset of average down payments for US homes. I was curious if down payments had a wide variation by state. They do! It wasn't surprising that the south had some of the lowest down payments but I didn't expect Washington, DC to be in the highest three.
