Since I live in Yucca Valley, California, a small desert community, I wanted to create a data visualization on a subject close to home. The website WeatherSpark.com allows you to compare and contrast the weather and climate between any two cities of the world. I found it intriguing that my far-flung town shares the most similar weather to a small town in Spain with a very long name as well as Damascus, Syria.

 

This is the first in a series of posters that graphically chart the weather for the cluster of towns in my community. The poster package will be explanded to include hiking, dining, sightseeing and other activities for visitors to Joshua Tree and the surrounding areas. Between Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley alone, we have 2,429 active short-term vacation rentals.
